Quinine – From the Sacred Bark to a Wonder Drug (Chapter 1)

My drug history book "Magic Bullet and Beyond" was published as a paperback, and it includes stories behind three miracle drugs: quinine, salvarsan, and penicillin. For the short story related to quinine, I published it as an eBook recently (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GDHPB8KR) , and an audiobook will be released in the future (Date: TBD) . For my Advanced PK and PD textbook, as of Nov 30, 2025, I have sold 216 copies at Amazon. My royalty is approximately $20 per copy. So, I earned about $4320 in total for this book. As promised, on Dec 1, 2025, I donated all my royalty earned from this book sale between May 6, 2025 (book release date) and Nov 30, 2025. Read more here...
A special dinner

Had a special and lovely dinner early this week with two giants in the PK/PD field – Dr. Peter Veng-Pedersen and Dr. Leslie Benet. It is inspiring to see Dr. Benet, at age of 88, is still actively engaging in research and teaching. I asked him what's the secret to keep him so energetic, and I was stunned - he runs 2-3 times a week, and about 2.2 miles every time!

Gerhard Levy was not only a pioneer of pharmacokinetics but also broadly regarded as “the Father of Pharmacodynamics”. In a 2006 article published at the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, he shared a personal perspective on the development of PD as a pharmaceutical science.
