As a pharmacokineticist, An brings 20 years expertise in the fields of PK/PD, pharmacometrics, and clinical pharmacology. Her current research interests include building mechanism-based pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modeling of small molecules and large molecules; model-informed drug development and model-informed clinical care; population pharmacokinetic modeling of drugs in special populations; as well as quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP). Clint the Squirrel

An PKPD Lab Mascot

In the PK class, Dr. An likes to use outside examples to explain those hard-to-understand PK terms. One such example is the use of squirrel & acorns to explain intrinsic clearance (CLint). In May 2023, 5 PharmD students stopped by An's office and brought her a gift (a squirrel holding an acorn) and they named him “Clint”. Since then, Clint the Squirrel has been the PharmD PK class mascot and the symbol of An PKPD lab.

Min received her BS and MS in Dalian Medical University in China, and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years before joining An PKPD Lab in the Pharmaceutics program in Spring 2021.

Xuanzhen (Mandy) received her BS at Virginia Tech, MS in Biomedical Engineering at Wake Forest University, and joined An PKPD lab in the Pharmaceutics program at University of Iowa in Fall 2021.

Peizhi (Paige) received her PharmD degree in the College of Pharmacy at University of Iowa in May 2022, and joined An PKPD Lab in Pharmaceutics program within the same college in Fall 2022.

Jomana graduated from Jordan University of Science and Technology, stayed in the same program as a research assistant for 2 years, then joined An PKPD lab in Fall 2023.

  • Thanh Bach, PhD (2016-2021): She joined BMS after graduation.
  • Nan Wu, PhD (2019-2023): She joined AbbVie after graduation. 

 

  • Joshua Reeder, PhD (2019-2025). Josh was co-supervised by Dr. Maureen Donovan (main advisor) and Dr. Guohua An.
  • Jiexin (Jason) Deng, PhD (2013-2018). Jason studied in An PKPD lab from Jan 2013- Aug 2014. He transferred to Schmidt lab after An left U of Florida in Fall 2014.
  • Jie (Joy) Shao,  PhD (2013-2019). Joy studied in An PKPD lab from Aug 2013- Aug 2014. She transferred to Hochhaus lab after An left U of Florida in Fall 2014.
  • Di Bei,  PhD (2014-2019). Joy studied in An PKPD lab from Jan 2014- Aug 2014. She transferred to Derendorf lab after An left U of Florida in Fall 2014.
