Happy to share that Hima Bindu Gottam, made a generous donation to our U of Iowa College of Pharmacy to establish Bindu Gottam Fund for Pharmaceutics Education, which supports graduate students enrolled in our pharmaceutics program. Her intention is to encourage women in science, particularly in pharmacy, and to support those who had to work harder to get here.
Bindu is a first-generation student who came to the US to pursue her MS after completing her BS in Pharmacy in India. Currently she is the Director of Formulation Development at UI Pharmaceuticals (https://uip.pharmacy.uiowa.edu/), the largest and most experienced university-affiliated FDA-registered pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the United States.
While she wears multiple hats in her current role, what Bindu loves most is her interactions with the College of Pharmacy students, sharing real-world industry experience and learning about their journeys. She says every interaction energizes her and reminds her of where she started.
She hopes to see more women in pharmacy as pharmacists, scientists, clinicians, faculty, and beyond, shaping the future of healthcare and improving the quality of patients' lives. The pharmacy profession closely resonates with her vision and values, and she hopes to create a meaningful impact for future generations.
This is the message she would like to send through her fund: “To every student finding their way into this field, know that somebody already believes in you without even knowing you.”
This year, Bindu Gottam scholarship has been awarded to Shweta Wani, a PhD student in Aliasger Salem’s lab in our Pharmaceutics program.
Bindu, we are very grateful for your strong support and your generosity!
