PharmD Class of 2027 Newsletter Interview (Feb 2024)
PharmD class of 2027 runs a monthly newsletter which circulates among their class members. This is creative and a great way to stay united. One component of this newsletter is faculty interviews. Last spring, they interviewed me and included the content in their March newsletter. I like those fun and lighthearted questions and would like to share some of them in this post.
◆ What is a fun fact about yourself that would surprise people?
- I love reading kung fu (i.e. Martial Arts) fiction novels since I was a kid, although I am not physically strong at all.
◆ Can you tell us a funny or fond memory from your time in school?
- I love spicy food. I thought I was very good at it till one year I attended Buffalo’s annual wing’s festival (when I was a graduate student at SUNY, University at Buffalo), I ate a few “nuclear wings”, and I went to the ER that day…
◆ Do you have any nicknames?
- My husband likes to call me “rock lady” because I like rock painting and have stocked a lot of different types of pebbles.
◆What is your favorite book?
- My favorite English book is “Tuesdays with Morrie”. Very touching… This book brought tears to my eyes.
◆What is your favorite vacation destination?
- My hometown in China. It is a rural and beautiful place with mountains, rivers, and creeks…
◆Who is your everyday role model?
- Dr. William Jusko, a giant in the PK/PD field. He is more than 80 years old and still publishes a lot every year and conducts research with passion and love.
◆If you won the lottery today, what would you do with the money?
- I would set up student fellowships, set up a pharmaceutical science related foundation. This is the situation that makes me realize the power of money 😊. The reality is that I am not rich, that is why I am interested in running fundraising for things that I believe important.
◆If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only bring three things, what would you bring?
- Cell phone (not sure if there is signal); food/water; and a heavy & interesting fiction book (if I won’t survive, I want to die with my favorite activity – reading fiction novels…)
