I would like to announce that recently I released a hardcover version of my basic PK textbook, “Essentials in Clinical Pharmacokinetics – Concepts, Dose Optimization, and Biologics”.  As I chose to use high quality and expensive paper for this hardcover version, the printing cost is higher than the paperback version. As a result, it is more expensive (listing price $88.5) than the paperback version ($62.5).

I ordered an author copy of the hardcover, and it arrived last week. It has much better paper quality than the paperback. I am happy that the material finally gets the best of care it deserves. If you are interested in this book and your budget allows, I strongly recommend the hardcover version. Please note that this recommendation is not based on my royalty. My royalty per copy is $20.89 for the hardcover, which is lower than the royalty of $23.15 for the paperback.

Behind every book, there is a “WHY”. There are many basic PK textbooks on the market, why would I still decide to write& publish this book? The following is the value my book offers:

◆ This book not only covers small-molecule drugs but also introduces biotherapeutic products, including monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), oligonucleotide products (ASOs and siRNAs), and CAR-T cell therapy.  Most of the existing PK textbooks focus on small-molecule drugs only. I consider Part III of my book (i.e., Chapters 12-16) a big advantage compared to other PK textbooks.

◆ Compared with other basic PK textbooks, I do think my book is easier to follow, which is particularly important for beginners who just stepped into the PK world and need to have a fundamental understanding on various PK concepts.

To keep readers engaged, I wrote this book in an unconventional way and included various case examples, magazine interviews, and interesting real-world stories. ln this book, readers will get to know Clint the squirrel who lives in the animal kingdom, Tom and Jerry who are freshman and excited to live on campus, and some others…as well as the fundamental PK concepts behind them.

I wrote this book in 2024, and the first 9 chapters were based on a PharmD course, " Pharmacokinetics and Dose Optimization ", that I have been teaching every spring semester since 2016. I dedicate this book to all my past, current, and future PharmD students at University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.

📌[additional announcement] To readers who purchased this basic PK book prior to August 25, 2025: a few errors were identified, and I released a book revision history table (see the article posted on Aug 24, 2025).
